CERT: What You Need to Know
A presentation by Marilyn Greenwald

This month, Marilyn will do a short introduction to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) classes offered through FEMA and Homeland Security in local communities.

During an area-wide emergency or an individual building fire, any agency (National Guard, Police, Fire, etc.) has, as their first duty, the safety and security of the adjoining area. Later, they can concentrate on individual citizens. So, we will focus mainly on personal/family preparedness for various disaster scenarios. When you are safe, CERTs training will provide you the ability to help in your community until and after the proper authorities can finally worry about individuals in need of help. This training is to insure that rational, trained citizens will be of assistance in various situations. CERTs members have basic first aid training, search and rescue training and can even lift a concrete block off someone. Cool stuff!

Everyone's input will be appreciated as we discuss fire prevention in our homes and emergency preparedness for ourselves and our families.

The meeting, on Saturday, July 18 at 7:00 p.m., will be at Lorie Bugby's house in West St. Louis County. Contact mail@gatewayobjectivists.net for directions or more information.

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."
