September Meeting:
“In Defense of Abraham Lincoln”
At our September meeting,
GO member Jeff Kiviat will present a lecture entitled “In Defense of
Abraham Lincoln.” Lincoln has been attacked by libertarians from H.L.
Mencken to Walter Williams, and most recently by the neo-confederate
libertarians associated with LewRockwell.com. These attacks have now
culminated in a book-length treatment by Thomas DiLorenzo, a senior
fellow at the Ludwig von Mises Institute. Among other things, DiLorenzo
portrays Lincoln as a racist who was primarily interested in centralizing
power in the federal government. Can this be true? Jeff will examine
these allegations at the next meeting.
