July Meeting:
"Rabbit-Proof Fence"
At our July meeting, we
will watch Rabbit-Proof Fence, a 2002 movie that won the award for
“Best Libertarian Film” (see story below). It tells the story of
three Aboriginal girls who are taken from their mothers by a government
program to integrate them into white society. The Internet Movie DataBase
describes the movie as:
Denied their very identity. Forced to adapt to a
strange new world. They will attempt the impossible. A daring escape. A
run from the authorities. An epic journey across an unforgiving landscape
that will test their very will to survive. Their only resources,
tenacity, determination, ingenuity and each other. Their one hope, find
the rabbit-proof fence that might just guide them home.
The movie stars Everlyn
Sampi, Tianna Sansbury, and Laura Monaghan, and was directed by Phillip
Noyce.
Also, Frank Bryan plans to
recap the events and lectures of The Objectivist Center’s Summer
Seminar earlier this month at Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts.
Join us on Saturday, July
19, at the home of Joy & Jeff Kiviat. We will also have plenty of
snacks and discussion. Call Joy & Jeff at (618) 288-2330 for
directions or more information.
