February Meeting:
Chocolat
and a Review by Leonard Peikoff

At our February meeting, we will watch Chocolat, a movie about a woman who opens a chocolate shop in a small French village and stirs up moral rigidity of the community. We will also listen to a review of the movie by Leonard Peikoff.

Chocolat stars Juliette Binoche as Vianne Rocher, an outsider who wins over the townspeople with her delicious chocolates and warm personality, while antagonizing the mayor and the church over her apparent lack of good morals. She adds to the distress by taking up with a river drifter, played by Johnny Depp. The romantic drama also stars Judi Dench, Lena Olin, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

We will also listen to an audiotape of Leonard Peikoff’s review of the movie, which aired on the Andrew Lewis Show in March 2001. This broadcast was from the 100th Radio Show Special, which featured both Leonard and Amy Peikoff as guests. Visit www.alshow.com for more info about the radio program.

Join us on Saturday, February 15, at the home of Joy & Jeff Kiviat, for a movie that pits those who follow the ways of the past with those who discovered the taste for pleasure. We will also have plenty of snacks and a discussion of the review. Call (314) 469-2723 for directions or more information.

Last Meeting at Joy & Jeff’s House

The February meeting will be the last one at Joy & Jeff’s house in West St. Louis County. They will be moving to Glen Carbon, Illinois in March. Make sure you are there, since we will make a decision regarding the location of future meetings.

We welcome submissions of reviews, articles, columns and commentary. Direct all correspondence to gwobjctvst@aol.com.
