December Meeting:
Objectivist Trivia Night
and our Annual Holiday Dinner

***Please note dinner is at 7:00, trivia at 8:00***

At our December meeting, we will play Objectivist Trivia and have our annual holiday dinner. GO member John Drake is organizing the trivia game, but the questions will be written by you. See the article below for more information on bringing your questions for our trivia game. If you don’t bring questions, we won’t have a game, so start that trivia research now! You will also be able to answer your own questions, so if you bring a question for every category, you’ll get at least one correct answer in each category.

For this year’s holiday dinner, our theme will be Russian cuisine, in celebration of Ayn Rand’s heritage. Our hosts, Joy & Jeff Kiviat, will be providing the main dish, as well as borscht. Everyone is asked to bring a Russian side dish, Russian salad, or Russian dessert. Russian recipes and food ideas can be found at http://www.russiansabroad.com/cuisine/. According to Joy, typical Russian dishes include potato or egg salad, borscht (red cabbage soup), dark rye bread, beef stroganoff, lamb, pirogies (meat-filled pastries), blini (little pancakes with sour cream), kasha, and anything with mushrooms. Common desserts are blintzes, sponge cakes and fruit pies.

Join us on Saturday, December 20, at the home of Joy & Jeff Kiviat, for this fun-filled evening of delicious food at 7 p.m. and trivia at 8 p.m. Call Joy & Jeff at (618) 288-2330 for directions or more information.

What You Need to Know for Objectivist Trivia Night

At our December meeting, after stuffing ourselves with food, we’ll start the games – we will split up into teams to play Objectivist trivia. However, at this trivia night, instead of using somebody else’s questions, we’re going to create our own. We request that everyone attending the meeting bring at least one trivia question (and answer) from each of the 11 categories below. The questions and answers will be re-used for a fundraiser for Camp Indecon scheduled at the 2004 TOC Summer Seminar. (Sorry, no royalties will be paid if your questions are used!)

When deciding on the difficulty of a question, try to pick something that some, but not all, of the GO members may know.

For each question, please write:

  • the category,
  • the question,
  • the answer, and
  • the source, if applicable,
all together, so our trivia moderator can separate everyone’s questions by category and have the answers easily accessible for each question.

For those of you who can’t make it to the meeting but still want to contribute, we welcome any submittals to john@webdesign-jrd.com or gwobjctvst@aol.com, and we’ll add them to the list of questions we use.
