April Meeting:
Tax Time with Milton Friedman’s
“Free to Choose”
At our April meeting, we will watch two
episodes from “Free To Choose,” Milton Friedman’s classic series on
economics. Each is 30 minutes long, followed by a discussion among
panelists with divergent views.
In the first tape, From Cradle to Grave,
Friedman looks at the expansion of government in the U.S. and Britain in
regard to welfare programs. The negative consequences of good intentions
are brought out, as well as how those programs change incentives.
The second tape, Created Equal, compares
equality of opportunity with equality of outcome as it follows personal
freedom in India, the U.S., and Britain.
Join us on Saturday, April 20, at 8 p.m. at the home
of Joy & Jeff Kiviat for an informative evening on economics in these
taxing times. Call (314) 469-2723 for directions.
Atlas has Shrugged
Nothing could be more disappointing than Kate Winslet not winning an
Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Iris. Nothing
except this: TNT’s Atlas Shrugged mini-series has permanently
stopped development. The deal is off between TNT and Ruddy Morgan
Productions. Read about it at www.missliberty.com/FilmAtlas.html.
